Trip to China: From their perspective

A delegation from Northwestern Michigan College consisting of President Timothy J. Nelson, Vice President for Lifelong and Professional Learning Marguerite Cotto, Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Services Chris Weber and Executive Director of the the Dennos Museum Center Gene Jenneman visited China from March 8 – 19.  On Friday, March 14, Nelson, Cotto and Weber visited Wuhan Weiming Senior High School.  Here’s a report, in their words, from Weiming about that portion of the trip. 

We really appreciate NMC delegation’s visit to our school. Through mutual introduction and exchanges, we deepened our understanding and built a profound friendship with each other. They thought highly of our school and students, promising to give further selfless assistance to us. Their visit boosted the development the international program of our school.

US NMC Boosts Cooperation with Wuhan Weiming Campuses on Sino-Us International Program

On Mar. 14, 2014 a delegation from Northwestern Michigan College( NMC), Traverse City, State of Michigan, USA came to Wuhan, capital of Hubei Province. Timothy J. Nelson, President of NMC,Chris Weber and Marguerite Cotto, vice presidents of NMC, visited Wuhan Weiming Senior High School and other partner schools. They had a friendly communication and interaction with the teachers and students.

NMC is one of the partner schools of Wuhan Weiming Senior High School on studying abroad program. The main purposes of their visit are as follows: Introduction of NMC; Providing assistance to our students and school; Giving support to the establishment of international curriculum experimental classes; Publication of cooperative school-running.

At the exchange meeting, firstly, Principal Zhou made a brief introduction of Wuhan, Donfgxihu District, Weiming Campus and its international program.

Secondly, Miss Wang Lixin, a history teacher from senior high school department, explained to US guests the “Group Research-based Learning” program.

Thirdly, NMC president Nelson and two vice presents made a detailed description of their college, covering its geographical location, humanities and social environment, curriculum, studies, life, employment and enrollment requirements. The students here showed a great interest in it.

Finally, a free talk was held between the students and our US guests. Several students eagerly spoke up and talked about their study and school life. When some student was too nervous to speak, Debra, Vice Principal of Wuhan Weiming Campus, came up to encourage him and cheer him up. The students also asked some questions consulting on issues of studying in the US. At the end of the meeting, the NMC guests gave some small gifts to the students who spoke at the meeting. Principal Zhou and Vice Principal Liu Zhongwen presented gifts to the guests. At last we separately took photos with our guests.)

After the exchange meeting, our American guests were shown around our school, they paid a visit to Weiming Reading Room, Senior High School Department and the innovation experimental classes of Junior High School Department.  Then they went to Wujiashan No 4 Middle School and Wujiashan High School in Dongxihu District, and had a deep communication with these school leaders on international education.
